Technology and Journalism

The development of new technology has allowed the field of journalism to advance tremendously. MP3 is not only being used for music. It is also being used for news reporting through its voice recording ability and wireless file transmission availability. The wireless transmission of files enables journalists to get newsworthy information out faster than the traditional news reporting methods such as print and television broadcast. The invention MP3 Players is affecting journalism in a phenomenal way. Journalists use this latest news reporting technology to gather and broadcast the story. News reporting via MP3 player allows journalists more mobility. They can get these devices into places that they can’t necessarily take cameras.

In the last Iraqi election,German and Iraqi journalists, used MP3 players to record election activities and gather unauthorized information. The information was transmitted to news broadcasters to produce an Iraqi election radio news program. Journalists put themselves in great danger by reporting on the election. The usage of the MP3 played a role in helping to secure the information gathered and the journalists identities. Of course, other recording devices can be used in place of cameras, but the conversion and transmission of files is not as advanced as the MP3 player. Technology has become an evolutionary instrument for journalists. Any advancements of this technology will also advance the field of journalism. The invention of a MP3 movie player would only enhance news-reporting methods. Although, it will surely raise ethical questions about how journalists retrieve and use unauthorized information. Editors, Journalists and the public will have to monitor journalism integrity and news source credibility more closely as technology advances.
